2. Figures and work of Orientalist at Early Period
a. Croce, Pennini Ricoldo De Monte (1243-1320)
Croce, who served as pastor of Dominican as well as a missionary who very hard in hostile to Islam, was born around the year 1243 at Fiorentina, and left the place of his birth (died) on 31 October 1320. During his life, he did a lot of activities related to preaching. Among other things, he had visited the countries of the Middle East as an envoy of the Pope such as Palestine, Armenia Minor, and Iraq in order to carry out activities of preaching, even as long as he is in the Middle East, he often debate with the leaders of the Muslims, it this he did because a very deep hatred against Islam. In addition, for 10 years, he was also got the task of calling the Yacobit in Mosul and Nestorian in Baghdad to join the Roman Catholic Church. After completion of duty, then Croce returned to his homeland in 1301.
The works that were born by him was:
Desputatio Saracenas Et Contra Alchoranem, was the first work written by him. The book has been translated into Indonesia language by title bout against Muslims and the Quran. Croce wrote his work with a very deep hatred towards Islam and the Quran, so it is not surprising if in his work filled with blasphemies directed towards Islam and the Quran.
Croce's work is preserved in the museum Britannica, but with a different title ie, entitled Antialcoran Machometi. After that, comes other titles which based on a Latin translation from language of Greece. The translation works generated by Demetrius Cydones in 1350 with the title Confutation (Ou Improbatio) Alchorani. In Cydones translation work, while he translated it, it also provides extras that comes from his own writings.
The second work entitled Liber Peregrinationis, this work contains the results of travel stories of his experiences during his duty in the Middle East.
