b. Pascual, Petrus (1227-1300)
Pascual was a prominent Spanish
orientalist who was born in Valencia in 1227 and died on 6 December 1300. In his
studies, he had studied in Paris for about eight years starting from the year
1241 to 1249. After acquiring the science of stock obtained
from Paris, thenlater he settled for some time in Rome.
From his study trip, at the end of this orientalist figures have expertise in
the field of theology, of this skill later he became one of the saint (the
saint) Spain. After pursuing a lot of experience in
Rome, he then returned toSpain to teach theology and
philosophy in Barcelona.
Once when he was asked by the King of
Oregon Yacob 1 to educate his son Sanchez, started from here, he was
subsequently appointed as his adviser when Sanchez was appointed as head of the
diocese of Toledo. In 1294 he got the task to become the Abbot of San Miguel in
the district of Braga, after undergoing this task for 2 years, then he was appointed
as bishop for Jean in 1296. 2 years later or the year of 1298, Pascual
captured by Muslims and imprisoned in Granada until his death. While in prison,
he took himself to write a number of books, among
which are: Collections of fairy tales, interpretation of scripture, and the
history of Islam. Among his works are considered the most important is the
Sobre El Seta Mahometana and Contra Los Fatalistas Mahometanos. In the
second birth to this work, he refers to the literature of Islam and
Christianity, such as As-Sirah An-Nabawiyah by Ibn Hisham, al-Mi'raj and Tract by
Abdul Masih Al-Kindi etc.
