STRETCHING ISLAM IN RUSSIA NOT EVER FADE
(Part 2)
On
October 15, 1552, after defeating the kingdom of Kazan, the kingdom was the
strongest in the region, Russian Empire opportunity to increasingly exert
influence in the Volga region and the Caspian Sea, more wide open.
This
is the beginning of the decline it. In the mid 18th century, Russian Muslims
are not allowed to perform religious activities, building mosques, and schools.
In essence, whatever religious breath, try muted by the Russian authorities.
Dark
situation continued for decades. Also, when the outbreak of the communist
revolution in 1917, increasingly led to a very bad situation for all faiths,
especially Muslims. The climax is when religion clearance occurred since 1927.
However,
Islam does not necessarily fade stretching. Although oppressed during the
communist regime in power, cultural roots or long Islamic history, never
uprooted.
Until
it came to pass the reform momentum of economic, social, and political at the
end of the 80s, with the collapse of the superpower Soviet Union. It was then
used by the Russian Muslim elements to improve and restructure the social and
religious life.
Now,
the Russian Muslim community should be proud. They recorded the largest Muslim
community in Europe. The amount includes about 15-20 percent of the population
and continue to grow over time.
In
addition to coming from Muslim descent, many of them are Russian Muslims are
converts. In fact, one might say, 60 percent of new adherents are ethnic
Russians who previously had no religion (atheist).
Factors
immigration from the North Caucasus and Central Asia, also affect the Muslim
population growth. But, there is one thing that is a serious concern among
Russian Orthodox Christians, namely the existence of a crisis among the ethnic
Russian population that causes a decrease in the population of 700 thousand
people per year.
This
has caused concern, because they may be a minority and losing his Russian
identity. If such trends continue, an estimated Muslim population in the next
30 years could exceed ethnic Russians. In fact, it is possible that Muslims
will become a majority in the Russian army.
